Semiu Liadi thrilled to play first match for Rivers United

July 17th, 2017 Dammy Dudu NPFL Updates 0 comments

Rivers United defender, Semiu Liadi is delighted after playing his first game for the Port-Harcourt based team in a stalemate 0-0 draw against ABS FC played in Ilorin in a Matchday 29 encounter on Sunday.

The former Enyimba defender moved to Rivers United from Akwa United in the mid-season transfer window, and have struggled for fitness and games.

After Olalekan Gabriel’s red card against MFM FC on Matchday 28, and Austin Festus exclusion from the team, Semiu Liadi moved up on the pecking order of defenders for the game against ABS FC in Ilorin.

The Nigeria International, came on to replace Ayobami Asekunowo, who had a knock very early in the second half.

In a chat with Sportlens360, Semiu Liadi expressed his joy, playing his first game and looking on to the next game.

“First of all, I want to thank almighty Allah for today’s game being my first, and also being part of the team that got the first away point in the second round for Rivers United.”

The former Warri Wolves defender continued, talking about the next game against Sunshine Stars.

“We are in the best position to beat Sunshine Stars, but we won’t underrate them because they are a good side. With the kind of players we have, the game on Wednesday will turn out good for us.”

The stalemate draw in Ilorin puts Rivers United on 13th place on the NPFL log with two games in hand, against Akwa United and Kano Pillars.
