Akwa United seek double over Abia Warriors

July 18th, 2017 Dammy Dudu NPFL Updates 0 comments

Akwa United are looking to getting something out of their Matchday 30 fixture against neighbors, Abia Warriors in Umuahia, especially after the comfortable 3-0 thrashing of Gombe United on Matchday 29 of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday.

Suspended striker, Ubong Friday will rejoin the team after serving his one match suspension against Gombe United, a ban he had due to the red card he was given against Plateau United in their 3-0 Loss on Matchday 28.

Akwa United will be aiming to do the double over 11th placed Abia Warriors who lost their weekend’s clash against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri by a lone goal. Akwa United held Abia Warriors to a draw last season in Umuahia and Coach Abdu Maikaba believes his team is capable of getting the maximum points on Wednesday.

“Our match with Abia Warriors is a key game for us considering our aspirations this season. We have a team that can get positive results against any team in this league irrespective of the venue. So we are going to Umuahia with the conviction that we have all what it takes to win”.

” We do not have any injury concerns and Ubong Friday is back, so we have well motivated players for this match. They know the importance of every match. That is why I am very positive that my players will deliver on Wednesday”.

Fans will be expecting goals from Musa Newman, Alhassan Ibrahim, Ubong Friday and Christian Pyagbara who have been the opposition goalkeepers’ nightmares in Akwa Utd’s recent outings.

A win for Coach Maikaba’s team will see them move up to 2nd on the log, as they continue their quest for a maiden NPFL title.
