Sogbeso scores late winner as NPFL allstars overcome Non-Leaguers scare

October 10th, 2017 Dammy Dudu NPFL Updates 0 comments

Seun Sogbeso scored a late winner through a spot kick to hand the NPFL all-stars a 2-1 win in their opener against Non-Leaguers in the Ongoing Amapro Championship at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin on Tuesday.

The NPFL all stars started on the front foot with so much domination, with Aminu Abdulkadir of Nasarawa United, Isiaka Olawale of Elkanemi Warriors, Ahmed Yakub of Abia Warriors and the Goal Poacher of ABS FC, Alalade Wasiu connecting most of the balls.

The NPFL all stars domination soon paid off, when Isiaka Olawale scored a screamer from a far distance, after a goal mouth scramble involving Aminu Abdulkadir and Alalade Wasiu. The goal which came at the 33rd minute was the highlight of the first half as the Non Leaguers could hardly pose a threat to the defence of the NPFL all-stars.

Wasiu Jimoh came on for Alalade Wasiu at the restart, while Kazeem Yeken of Niger Tornadoes came on as a substitute for Lukman Orire, who was hardly tested before the break.
The game took a turn when the NonLeaguers hit the post from an ariel duel which Yeken could hardly have a hand at. Seconds after hitting the post, Samuel Ampkitan leveled for the Non Leaguers through a header in the 50th minute.
The Non Leaguers dominated the NPFL all stars after the leveler, and even got a ball at the back of the net, but the referee had signaled for an offside before the final kick that led to the goal.

While there was so much pressure on the NPFL all-stars, a clear out from the NPFL all stars defence gave Wasiu Jimoh a one on one with the defender and the Goalkeeper, Wasiu turned the defender inside out, before the defender made a needless tackle to give a NPFL all-stars a 90th minute spot kick which Seun Sogbeso calmly slotted home.

In the other match, The NNL selected also cruised to a 2-1 win over Amateur all-stars, with Abdul Rahmon getting a 4th minute opener while Fadeyi added the second, and Sola Babatunde got the lone goal for the Amateur all-stars.

The matches continue on Wednesday, with the two sides who lost on the first day, Amateur all-stars and Non Leaguers to battle for points, while the NNL selected will slug it out with the NPFL all stars in the second game of the Ongoing Amapro Championship.
