Former Manchester City player Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in jail for sexual assault.
The verdict was announced by a Milan court on Thursday following an alleged incident in which Robinho, along with five other men were found guilty of assaulting a 22-year-old woman at a nightclub in Milan in 2013, when he played for AC Milan.
However, Robinho has denied the incident and now has the opportunity to appeal the verdict under Italian law.
The 33-year-old became the most expensive player in British football when he joined Manchester City from Real Madrid for £32.5m in 2008.
The Brazilian currently ply his trade for Atletico Mineiro in the Brazilian league.
