Kano Pillars goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso was impressed with his fine display which helped the team move on top of the Nigerian Professional football league (NPFL) Playoffs table going on at the Soccer Temple, Agege.
The Sai Masu Gida claimed their first win of the playoffs with two second half goals by Adamu Hassan and Nyima Nwagua, following a 2-2 draw against Akwa United in their first game of the 2019 NPFL Championship playoffs.
The goalkeeper who hasnt been a starter for a while told Sportlens360 that he was surprised by his inclusion in the game but was ever ready to help the team when called upon.
“I was surprised when I was picked to start the game because I did not seen action in the regular season even though I am always ready. However, the goal keeper trainer only told me to be ready for Enyimba game and I thought, I will be on the bench as usual”. He said
A penalty was awarded to Enyimba when Chris Madaki hacked down Abdulrahman Bashir but Ayeleso calmly saved Ifeanyi Anaemena’s spot kick in the 61st minute. His former teammate at Nasarawa United, Abdulrahman Bashir also had a chance on goal for Enyimba in the 74th minute but the goalkeeper who wouldn’t allow a goal in his net saved the day.
“My team mates encouraged me to stop the penalty which eventually happened. It was the belief they had in me, that made me save the penalty and the penalty miss was the turning point of the game despite several chances missed by the team which could have put them ahead earlier”. He continued.
The former Nasarawa United Goalkeeper stated that their major goal is to win the competition which they believe they would. According to him , the win has been a psychological boost which they would take advantage of, to remain on top.
Two games out of five have been played by each team in the competition and Kano Pillars currently sits at top of the table with 4 points after the win against Enyimba.
