Gernot Rohr has admitted that Super Eagles is not filled with superstars like in the past but praised his players’ fighting spirit after their comeback win against Cameroon on Saturday.
Two goals from Odion Ighalo and a winner from Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi goal secured a Round Of 16 victory against Defending Champions, Cameroon who had led earlier in the first half.
“I think of those players who could not play today, but play against Madagascar, because if we had lose this game, it will be about how we didn’t win that game. It was a special game and my team showed solidarity, good football, although there was a loss of concentration towards the end of the first half but we came back strong in the second half.” said a delighted Rohr.
The German also heaped praises on the team while he admitted that the team doesn’t have superstars like in the past.
“We are not the best around and we don’t have superstars like Kanu and Okocha of those days but we have a team with wonderful spirit. They never give up and we showed that in the second half, with better organization in the midfield and precision in the attack”.
Gernot Rohr will lead the Super Eagles in quest of winning their fourth AFCON title, when they face South Africa in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday.
