Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo is confident he can win the 2019 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) Golden Boot award.
The 30–year old has scored three goals so far, for the Super Eagles and also had one assist. This makes him the tournament’s current top scorer ahead of the Quarterfinals matches. Although he is joined on three goals with Senegal’s Sadio Mane, Algeria’s Adam Ounas and DR Congo’s Cedric Bakambu but ahead with the assist.
The Shanghai Shenhua striker was the topscorer in the AFCON qualifying round scoring seven goals, one ahead of Burundi’s Fiston Abdulrazak. Ighalo netted one against Seychelles, a brace against Libya, a hat-trick against Libya, and one against Seychelles in the final rounds to move top on the list.
However, Ighalo is confident that he can also win the Golden Boot award of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
“I will like to win the golden boot but that is secondary to the team’s objective. I would rather the team wins than I score. I don’t pay attention to critics I just do my job and as long as my coach is satisfied with me, I’m ok.” He said.
Nigeria will play against South Africa on Wednesday in one the Quarterfinals fixtures of the 2019 AFCON.
