Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi put up an outstanding performance for Kazier Chiefs as they ousted Orlando Pirates in the Quarterfinals Of Telkom Knockout Cup on Saturday.
The 33-year old made numerous saves in the game and also saved two kicks in the penalty shootouts to help Kaizer Chiefs to the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout Cup.
After lots on pressure on Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates opened the scoring in the 34th minute through Makaringe to take them ahead into halftime.
Kazier Chiefs leveled scoring in the 62nd minute, after Castro capitalized on a rebound from Billiat’s attempt, which hit the upright.
Daniel Akpeyi saved Pule’s header in the 72nd minute and also Mabasa’s attempt at goal in the 77th minute to keep the score at 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Kaizer Chiefs went ahead for the first time in the match, with a well taken spot kick from Cardoso in the second minute of the extra-time.
Mhango restored parity for 2-2 in the 10th minute of the extra time to push the match to penalty shootout.
The two teams scored their first two kicks, before Daniel Akpeyi saved Motshwari’s and Mabaso’s kick to give Kaizer Chiefs a 4-2 win on penalties.
Daniel Akpeyi will now join the Super Eagles team as they prepare to face Benin Republic and Lesotho in the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers next week.
