Former Nations African Championship Eagles Midfielder Paul Onobi has revealed that he was picked ahead of former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi in the World Cup qualifiers in 2016.
The 27-year-old midfielder who sees John Obi Mikel as his Role model made this revelation known about getting the notch ahead of Mikel Obi in the game against Swaziland and also expressed his admiration for the former Chelsea Man.
“We played together in the National team. In the game against Swaziland, I was selected ahead of him by Sunday Oliseh” he told Sportlens360.
“At the camp, we used to get close anytime we have the opportunity, After that game, he invited us to his apartment. We went, chatted and he even gave us money, the man with a good heart”
Paul Onobi who has had different stints with different Nigerian Professional football league sides like Enyimba, Niger Tornadoes, Sunshine stars currently ply his trade for Kuwaiti football club side, Kazma SC.
