US Open 2017: Review of Day 1 and Preview of Day 2

August 29th, 2017 Dammy Dudu Tennis 0 comments

The 2017 flushing meadows started in style on Monday, as they                        were couple of upsets, just as any tournament would have been.

David Ferrer was First big player casualty,  as he lost in four sets to     world number 102, Mikhail Kukushkin. The Spaniard had earlier won the first set, but the Russian came back stronger to win the next three sets. In the men category, the ferrer loss was the          only big time shocker on the first         day as Alexander Zverev, John Isner, Marin Cilic, Wilfred Tsonga, Ernest Gulbis, Benoit Paire, Sam Querry             all won their opening match in a easy fashion.

However,  in the women category, Maria Sharapova came out tops against Simona Halep in the most anticipated match      of the first round. British Heather Watson also lost out in straight sets to French Alize Cornet, however the      other British, Johanna Konta                 also crashed out losing to Krunic in three sets.

Garbine Muguruza, Krystyna Pliskova, Petra Kvitova, Venus Williams,    Carolina Wozniacki, and         rejuvenated Sloane Stephens all cruised to the next round with wins on the first day.

Day 2:

World number One, Rafael Nadal will begin his US Open campaign against Dusan Lajovic, while 5-time US Open champion, Roger Federer will play next gen star Frances Tiafoe.

Tomas Berdych will play Ryan Harrison, Nick Kyrgios will play                            John Millman, and David Goffin will play Julien Benneteau.

In the women category, World number One Karolina Pliskova will kickstart her US Open campaign against Magda Linette.  US Open defending champion, Angelique Kerber will have a tough one against Japan’s Naomi Osaka,  while Agnieska Radwanska will play Petra Martic.
