The players of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, FC IfeanyiUbah have boycotted two days training as they cry out to demand for their 5-month owed salary.
The 2016 Federation Cup Champions, who are currently placed 8th on the log and also in the round of 16 of the Aiteo Cup after beating their feeders team, are set to boycott the Matchday 38 fixture against Lobi stars on Saturday.
It could be recall that, the League Management Company (LMC) on Wednesday handed the Nnewi based club a huge fine and suspended twelve of the Club’s players for misconduct in the Matchday 36 fixture against Niger Tornadoes in Lokoja.
According to one of the players, who prefer to remain anonymous, he disclosed that the team missed training sessions on Thursday and Friday consecutively in demand for their 5 months owed salary.
He said to Sportlens360.
“The players are fed up. Two seasons ago, the club owed the players four months salary, but they asked the players to sign and paid just two months while the rest of the salary was not paid till date.”
“Even after we won the 2016 Federations Cup, we were owed about two months salary. Now this season we are yet to be paid for five months now, and the league ends on Saturday. We missed training on Thursday and Friday to speak our mind.”
FC IfeanyiUbah will play Lobi Stars in the last game of the season in Nnewi, a dead rubber match as both teams are neither battling for title and Continental place nor relegation.
