Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has expressed no regret in pushing for a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.
The likes of Chelsea, Manchester city were interested in the signature of the defender; Liverpool were reportedly close to completing a move for the Dutch but later withdrew their interest and then issued an apology to Southampton after being accused of an illegal approach.
Even after the breakdown, Van Dijk still has hope of a move away from his present club.
“I’m glad I’m fit again and I can give up 100%. I’m not sorry for anything,” he told Fox Sports.
“Of course, I wanted to make a step up, but Southampton did not want me to sell me, but you’re a professional, so now I’ll give everything to the club. Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.”
Van Dijk started his first game this season for the saints in a 2-1 defeat to stoke city on Saturday.
