Akwa United are close to winning the 2021 NPFL title after a 3-0 win against Jigawa Golden Stars at the Nest of Champions on Sunday.
The promise keepers went ahead late in the first half through Ubong Friday, before Charles Atshimene made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute from a nice header. Wisdom Fernando made it 3-0 in the 89th minute with a solo effort.
Mfon Udoh spoke to Sportlens360 in an interview, as he shared the reasons behind their form.
“I think what’s really pushing us is that we all have the same goal. Everyone wants it so bad that we all fight together. Same ambition.” Udoh told Sportlens360.
The former Enyimba striker also shared why the team got stronger, even with Ndifreke Effiong’s exit
“The team wasn’t and isn’t built around one person that’s why we’re doing well irrespective of who plays. Anyone can fit in.
“I’m already feeling amazing in view of the title. 20 teams aiming for the trophy and we’re almost getting it. It keeps getting better.” Udoh told Sportlens360.
With three Matchdays to go, Akwa United need four points to claim the 2021 NPFL title.
